Distribution and Habitat

Country distribution from AmphibiaWeb's database: Madagascar

View distribution map in BerkeleyMapper.
An’Ala, Andasibe. It is observed between 815-900m asl. This species inhabits rainforest, including old secondary forest close to pristine forest, and breeds in streams (Vences and Glaw 2008).

Life History, Abundance, Activity, and Special Behaviors
Habits: Appears to be very localized and rather rare within its known distribution area. Males have been heard calling before the onset of the rainy season in December, from perches in the vegetation 1.5-2 m above the ground along a stream in rainforest.

Calls: Two types of unharmonious notes, a longer note typically followed by a series of 2-3 shorter notes.

Trends and Threats
Data Deficient: uncertainties related to extent of occurrence, status and ecological requirements. It occurs in the Réserve Spéciale d’Analamazaotra, and probably in the nearby Parc National de Mantadia (Vences and Glaw 2008).

Possible reasons for amphibian decline

General habitat alteration and loss
Habitat modification from deforestation, or logging related activities
Intensified agriculture or grazing
Urbanization
Habitat fragmentation
