The AmphibiaWeb database offers the possibility to search by country. Here, the total number of amphibian species per country is shown. To do a search for an individual country, go here.
This figure shows the number of species per country against the lattitude of the middle of that country. It shows that the countries with the highest numbers of species within their borders are clustered around the equator. For a figure that is somewhat corrected for the size of the country, see the density/lattitude figure below.

This figure shows the species density (in number of species per square kilometer times one million) against the lattitude of the middle of that country. The figure shows the highest densities of species around the equator. Note that the horizontal axis is in logarithmic scale.
Graph by Rachna Tiwari
This figure shows the number of species per square kilometer against the latitude for all
of the countries in AmphibiaWeb with an area over 1000 square kilometers. It shows the
greatest species diversity around the tropics (0 degrees) and a lower diversity at the
latitude where deserts are prevalent (around 30 degrees). Diversity picks up again at
the temprate zones and drops toward the poles (90 degrees).
The name of the country and the number of species in it according to AmphibiaWeb
(Sep 2001) can be seen by hovering your mousepointer over a specific datapoint.
