Carlos Vásquez Almazán, a Guatemalan amphibian expert, is one of this year's Whitley Fund for Nature Awards winners. Carlos created Guatemala's first network of protected areas for endangered amphibians, including critical habitat for Duellmanohyla soralia, endemic to the Sierra Caral and Sierra Merendon on the Honduras-Guatemala border.
